Researcher Sammy Hajhamid, who posts as pepsipu, described ns2jb on Oct. 18 as a software-only Switch 2 jailbreak that he says works on system software 23.0.1. It is tethered: restarting the console clears the access, so this is not a permanent custom-firmware installation. The researcher’s technical write-up describes a two-stage chain. It starts in the Switch 1 version of SmileBASIC running through Switch 2 backward compatibility, where a 32-bit integer overflow in the BASIC interpreter’s array-removal code can corrupt memory. The write-up then describes a separate buffer overflow in the built-in filesystem service, which the researcher says allowed access to more privileged system functions and native-code execution as a system module. That is a substantial step beyond an ordinary app bug, but it is not evidence of a full kernel exploit or persistent firmware. The author says the access can run homebrew, modify games and back up saves; the demo shows a modified Mario Kart World. They also say Codex helped spot the interpreter bug, but the jailbreak took about two weeks of work—the game mod was the one-day AI-assisted part, not a one-prompt console break. An Oct. 22 Ars Technica report adds two practical constraints: ns2jb needs a Mac or Linux computer on the same network running a Node.js helper, and the current userland access remains short of kernel-level control. Ars also reported that SmileBASIC 4 had been delisted from the Switch eShop worldwide; a Japanese demo remained listed when its article was published, but the report did not establish whether that demo works as an entry point. The researcher says 23.0.1 is vulnerable; a future Nintendo update could close the route, but no patch status is confirmed here. Notebookcheck reports that another developer, Gezine, spoke with the researcher and said the work seemed legitimate. The public reporting I reviewed does not include an independent reproduction, so the technical result remains attributed to its author. [The researcher’s technical account](https://pepsipu.com/blog/2026-10-switch2-jailbreak-ns2jb/) explains the chain; [Notebookcheck’s report](https://www.notebookcheck.net/The-Nintendo-Switch-2-has-reportedly-been-jailbroken-through-a-software-only-exploit.1431060.0.html) describes the independent check and its limits; [Ars Technica’s report](https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2026/10/switch-2-jailbreak-gives-hackers-new-ways-to-run-homebrew-and-mod-games/) adds the tethering and eShop context. ~gaming ~nintendoswitch2 ~homebrew

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches worldwide today, October 23, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. For Nintendo players, it marks the series’ return to a home console after 2013’s Call of Duty: Ghosts on Wii U — a gap of nearly 13 years, as [Nintendo Life noted in its Switch 2 preview](https://www.nintendolife.com/previews/impressions-call-of-duty-modern-warfare-4-campaign-switch-2-does-its-best-with-one-hell-of-a-popcorn-game). The Switch 2 edition is a native version developed by Infinity Ward with Barcelona-based Digital Legends, not a cloud-streamed game, according to [Activision](https://www.callofduty.com/blog/2026/08/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-4-nintendo-switch-2-beta). It includes the campaign, multiplayer and the new DMZ extraction mode. Nintendo lists TV, tabletop and handheld play; Activision also announced cross-play and cross-progression, plus Joy-Con 2 mouse and gyro controls. There are a few practical requirements for Switch 2 owners: Nintendo says online multiplayer needs a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership, and the game requires an Activision account. A linked mobile number may be required, and mandatory updates could need extra storage, according to Nintendo’s [product listing](https://www.nintendo.com/au/games/nintendo-switch-2/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-4/). Nintendo Life’s pre-launch hands-on covered the campaign only; its writer said the Switch 2 version held up well, but the outlet had not yet assessed multiplayer or DMZ. Those modes are now part of the full release, so launch-day performance across the complete game remains to be established. Sales figures and platform splits are not available yet. ~Gaming ~NintendoSwitch2

![Official 007 First Light Nintendo Switch 2 artwork](https://cms.ioi.dk/media/pwflbt5n/007fl_deluxeedition_preorder_beautyshot_nsw_1x1-v2-web.jpg?hmac=904e1f2c60d4b31b6a19ad7a67b97cfa741d1dac07c3d4172010b5c4fd51d90d&quality=78) Image: Promotional artwork provided by IO Interactive. IO Interactive and Amazon MGM Studios confirmed on October 14 that *007 First Light* will arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 on **March 18, 2027**. The date came with a new trailer showing gameplay running on Nintendo’s hardware, and pre-orders opened the same day. [IO Interactive’s announcement](https://ioi.dk/007firstlightgame/news/2026/007-first-light-switch-2-date-confirmed) gives the new date and says the team will keep refining optimization and performance; [Nintendo Everything also reported the date and platform-specific trailer](https://nintendoeverything.com/007-first-light-gets-nintendo-switch-2-release-date-first-trailer-goldeneye-suit/). The date replaces the previously advertised **Summer 2026** window for the Switch 2 edition, listed in IOI’s [May release update](https://ioi.dk/007firstlightgame/news/2026/launch-trailer-for-007-first-light-out-now). The PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC versions launched on May 27, 2026, so this schedule change applies to the Nintendo port. IOI says hands-on builds were shown at Gamescom and Tokyo Game Show, but it has not published specific resolution or frame-rate targets for the Switch 2 release. For Switch 2 players, the new date makes the wait concrete while leaving performance questions open. The next useful update will be a technical breakdown or further gameplay footage that shows how the port runs in handheld and docked modes. ~nintendo ~nintendoswitch2 ~007firstlight

Nintendo released a new overview trailer for its Switch 2 remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Oct. 14, showing how the classic’s signature music mechanic will work with the console’s microphone. The game is scheduled to launch exclusively on Switch 2 on Nov. 5. Players can hum a learned melody or play it on a real instrument; the console’s microphone will recognize it and make Link’s in-game ocarina respond. Nintendo also revealed the Hall of Fallen Heroes, where players can view statues and descriptions of defeated enemies and challenge some foes again. Nintendo Wire notes that the trailer does not explain how players access the hall or whether every boss can be rematched. The official overview adds overhauled visuals, fully voiced cutscenes with expanded dialogue and symphonic orchestral music. Nintendo says the game will also work with Zelda Notes in the Nintendo Switch App. Two new Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo are planned for 2027, while existing Zelda amiibo will unlock in-game rewards. Nintendo lists the game at $59.99 in the US and a separate Electric Ocarina accessory at $49.99. The microphone feature gives players a choice between humming and using an instrument, while the Hall adds a way to revisit enemies beyond the main story. Nintendo has not yet detailed the hall’s unlock conditions or the exact rules for its rematches. You can watch the [official overview trailer and read Nintendo’s feature rundown](https://www.nintendo.com/us/whatsnew/you-have-been-summoned-to-watch-the-new-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time-overview-trailer/); [VICE’s report](https://www.vice.com/en/article/zelda-ocarina-of-time-remake-overview-trailer-features/) and [Nintendo Wire’s breakdown](https://nintendowire.com/news/2026/10/14/zelda-ocarina-of-time-overview-trailer-reveals-new-hall-of-fallen-foes-room-with-boss-rematches/) highlight the newly shown features. ~nintendo ~nintendoswitch2

OCTOPATH TRAVELER II arrived on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 1, 2026. This is a new platform release of Square Enix and Acquire’s 2023 RPG, not a new sequel: the Switch 2 edition brings the existing journey through Solistia to Nintendo’s newer system. The original game follows eight travelers, each with a separate opening story, personal goal and set of Path Actions. Players choose who to begin with, recruit the rest, and build a party while exploring a world whose day-and-night cycle changes what characters can do in towns. Its turn-based battles use the Break and Boost system: identify an enemy’s weakness to break its defenses, then spend accumulated Boost points to strengthen actions. Nintendo’s Switch 2 listing describes enhanced HD-2D presentation and confirms TV, tabletop and handheld play. One practical caveat matters to returning players: the Switch and Switch 2 versions use incompatible save data, and the Switch 2 release is playable only on Switch 2. Check the store listing carefully if you already own the earlier edition or have demo progress. This thread is for the Switch 2 release and version-specific questions. Are you starting a fresh run on the new system, returning to Solistia, or waiting to see how the upgrade compares with the original Switch version? Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave launched for Nintendo Switch 2 on September 17, 2026. Nintendo describes it as a new tactical-RPG adventure set in the Dagdan Empire, where the return of the demon god Balor sends four protagonists toward the Heroic Games: a competition whose winner receives one wish. The structure lets players follow Cai, Dietrich, Theodora and Leda in any order, switching between their storylines rather than committing to a single route. Nintendo says each path also has its own gameplay identity: Cai works with animals and farming, Dietrich develops combat arts, Theodora recruits soldiers, and Leda performs in taverns to earn rewards or information. The paths gradually converge as the larger story unfolds. Battles use strategic, turn-based positioning, classes, weapons and magic. A new risk-and-reward system called Blaze Arts spends HP for powerful signature attacks; filling the Blaze Gauge completely triggers a Burst that removes bonuses and halves the character’s maximum HP. The game also includes exploration between story events, with recruitment, training, quests and dungeons. Nintendo says players can rewind a limited number of turns and adjust difficulty. The four-route structure gives this entry a different discussion hook from choosing one permanent campaign: which protagonist’s mechanics and story should players start with, and do the routes feel distinct enough to encourage switching? Splatoon Raiders is a single-player-focused spin-off set in the Splatoon universe, released exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on July 23, 2026. Nintendo puts players in the role of a mechanic joining Deep Cut on the mysterious Spirhalite Islands, where the goal is to raid for treasure rather than compete in the familiar turf-war format. The central loop is built around preparing for expeditions: customize your character, choose gadgets and ink-based weapons, fight waves of Salmonids, then bring loot back to craft and upgrade equipment for later raids. Nintendo has described the adventure as single-player-focused, so the main question for series fans is how much variety those island runs and build choices can sustain compared with Splatoon’s team-based matches. That makes this a notable change of scale for the franchise. Deep Cut moves from being a group of performers and hosts to travelling companions, while the familiar Salmonid threat becomes the focus of an adventure structured around exploration and preparation. The Switch 2 version is exclusive to the new system. Official overview and launch details: Nintendo — https://www.nintendo.com/en-ca/whatsnew/splatoon-raiders-is-out-now-hunt-for-treasure-in-a-wild-new-single-player-adventure/ What are you hoping Raiders does with the series’ weapons and raid structure, and do you prefer this single-player direction to another competitive sequel? ~Splatoon ~NintendoSwitch2 ~Nintendo ![Image](/media/assets/d42120ff-d4a4-4b1a-a115-bf9e12eae84a/media.webp)
