MUSHIMU RULES

Open conversation needs clear boundaries.

These global rules define the minimum standard across Mushimu. Communities can add their own rules, but they cannot override the platform baseline.

Moderate conduct, not opinions.

Being offensive, unpopular, controversial or wrong is not, by itself, a rules violation. Moderation should target conduct that breaks a specific rule.

HOW RULES WORK

One platform baseline, room for community rules.

Moderation decisions should follow a predictable order so users and moderators know which standard is being applied.

  1. 1
Mushimu global rulesApply everywhere and cannot be overridden by a community.
  2. 2
Community rulesCan be stricter about topic, format, quality, NSFW content or self-promotion.
  3. 3
Moderator judgmentUsed for context and proportionality, never to invent a rule after the fact.

GLOBAL RULES

The rules every community shares.

The M1–M12 identifiers are stable references that moderators can cite in reports, removals and future appeals.

M1

Threats and violence

Do not make credible threats, organize real-world violence or use Mushimu to facilitate attacks. Discussion of wars, crime, violent events or history is allowed when the context is informational, documentary or conversational.

M2

Harassment

Do not repeatedly target, intimidate or follow someone across communities, organize dogpiles, or encourage others to harass them. Criticism, heated disagreement and isolated insults are not automatically harassment.

M3

Hate and targeted abuse

Political, religious, cultural, immigration, sex and identity debates are allowed. Calls for violence, dehumanization or targeted harassment against people because of personal characteristics are not.

M4

Sexual exploitation and minors

Child sexual exploitation material, sexualization of minors, grooming, solicitation or links that facilitate access to such material are prohibited and require immediate platform action.

M5

Sexual, graphic and NSFW content

Lawful adult or graphic material must follow Mushimu's content labels and community rules. Non-consensual sexual content, illegal sexual content and any sexual content involving minors are prohibited.

M6

Privacy and doxxing

Do not publish private personal information to identify, intimidate or harm someone. This can include home addresses, private phone numbers, identity documents, financial information or non-public location data.

M7

Spam and manipulation

Do not use spam, coordinated accounts, abusive bots, vote rings, fake engagement or other schemes to manipulate conversations, votes, reach or Muxi.

M8

Fraud and impersonation

Do not scam users or deceptively impersonate a person, company or organization. Parody, fan and satire accounts are allowed when their nature is reasonably clear.

M9

Misleading and manipulated information

Moderators are not general arbiters of truth. Being mistaken is not automatically a violation. Action is appropriate for fraud, deceptive manipulation, fabricated attribution, coordinated manipulation or false information designed to cause imminent significant harm.

M10

Illegal or dangerous facilitation

Do not use Mushimu to carry out serious illegal activity or directly facilitate harmful wrongdoing. Discussion of crime, drugs, weapons, cybersecurity, extremism or other sensitive subjects can be allowed when it is informational, journalistic, educational or part of legitimate debate.

M11

AI and automation

AI-generated content is allowed. Automated systems may not be used for mass spam, deceptive impersonation, manufactured engagement, vote or Muxi manipulation, or systematic evasion of moderation.

M12

Sanction evasion

Do not create or use other accounts to evade an active suspension or restriction. Accounts used specifically to bypass enforcement may also be sanctioned.

COMMUNITY RULES

Communities can be stricter, not looser.

Community moderators may set additional rules for scope, off-topic posts, spoilers, memes, self-promotion, quality, formatting or NSFW material. Those local rules must be visible and cannot permit conduct prohibited by M1–M12.

MODERATOR GUIDE

Apply a rule, not a preference.

The goal is to keep communities usable, not to punish disagreement. Decisions should identify the broken rule, consider context and use the least severe action that reasonably protects the community.

Which specific rule did this break?

If you cannot identify a platform or community rule, removal will usually be difficult to justify. A moderator should not create a new offence retrospectively because they dislike a post or user.

SituationUsual action
Off-topic or low-quality contentApply the published community rule; usually remove or redirect without a platform suspension.
Isolated insult or rude disagreementUsually no platform suspension; apply community civility rules if one exists.
Repeated targeted harassmentRemove violating content and consider a temporary or permanent suspension depending on severity and history.
Repeated spam or artificial engagementRemove the content and suspend when the behavior is deliberate or repeated.
Doxxing or malicious private informationRemove immediately and escalate for account suspension.
Credible threat of violenceRemove immediately, suspend and escalate to platform administration.
Child sexual exploitation materialRemove immediately, block access and escalate through the platform's legal and safety process.
Ban or suspension evasionSuspend the evading account and link the action to the original enforcement record.
Controversial political, religious or social opinionDo not act solely because of the viewpoint. Intervene only when a separate rule is broken.
Claim that appears false or badly sourcedDo not remove solely for being wrong. Act when M8, M9 or another concrete rule applies.
01

Use proportional enforcement

When appropriate, prefer removal or warning before temporary suspension, and temporary suspension before permanent suspension. Severe violations can justify immediate stronger action.

02

Explain the decision

Whenever practical, cite the rule used, such as “Removed — M2: Harassment”. Clear reasons make moderation reviewable and reduce arbitrary enforcement.

03

Avoid conflicts of interest

Moderators should not use moderation powers to win personal arguments. When practical, another moderator should review disputes in which the moderator is directly involved.

04

Allow review and appeals

Appeals should make it possible to verify the rule applied, the content involved, proportionality and possible moderation error. An appeal does not guarantee reversal.

PLATFORM ADMINISTRATION

Global rules remain enforceable across Mushimu.

Mushimu administrators may intervene when a community repeatedly violates global rules, is mainly used for prohibited activity, lacks effective moderation for serious violations or attempts to evade prior platform enforcement. This may include content removal, account sanctions, restrictions or community removal.
