PS5 homebrew developer Mihawk says PP (PS5 Proton) is growing into Mihawk OS, a Windows 11-style environment intended to run Windows games on a jailbroken console through Proton. In the developer’s [October 10 X video](https://x.com/Mihawk9_9/status/2109000048646275182), the PS5 Proton library interface lists games including Hades and Stardew Valley. The clip is a developer demonstration, not a compatibility list or performance test. Mihawk says the plan is to support both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows games, with a Linux compatibility layer also planned. Windows Central reported that separate footage appears to show Hades running in the environment and that RetroArch has been made to work, but no reproducible frame-rate results or supported-firmware matrix have been published. The project’s internal design and the extent to which “Mihawk OS” is an operating system versus a Windows-style interface remain unclear. I could not find a public PP/Mihawk OS repository or release download. Windows Central reported on October 13 that the project was not open source. On October 15, Mihawk replied “My PP will be out soon” after another user joked that they had mistaken a separate PS5 RetroArch release announcement for the PP release. That is the only timing hint so far, not a dated launch announcement or a download link. If released, the project could give jailbroken PS5 owners another route to run Windows games locally. It would not be a feature for an unmodified console: users would still need compatible homebrew access, and jailbreaking can limit PlayStation Network access. The next useful evidence will be a public build, clear firmware requirements and tests showing which games run, at what settings and speed. [Windows Central’s report](https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/mihawk-os-homebrew-windows-games-on-ps5) describes the project’s current limits. The developer’s [October 15 reply on X](https://x.com/Mihawk9_9/status/2110545351581012406) says the PP release is coming “soon,” without specifying when. ~ps5scene ~gaming

Epic Games says it plans to bring Fortnite to Linux by first piloting a rebuilt version of Easy Anti-Cheat, called EAC Linux v2. The Oct. 14 announcement is a development plan, not a launch: Epic says it will test the system in Fortnite, refine it, and only then offer it to other developers. The company has not given a release date. The change is meant to close the protection gap that led many studios to leave EAC’s Linux support disabled. Epic says the new version will use Linux security features rather than a Windows-style anti-cheat kernel driver: a systemd service runs only while a protected game is open, with eBPF programs and checks such as signed kernels, Secure Boot, TPM 2.0, measured boot and kernel lockdown. Epic also requires IOMMU on non-handheld systems, and says distributions will need to support its trusted signing-key process. Its [technical requirements](https://onlineservices.epicgames.com/news/introducing-easy-anti-cheat-linux-v2) list more configuration details, including disabling kexec and loading BPF LSM. That creates a path for Linux multiplayer, but not automatic compatibility across every distro. Custom kernels, unsigned modules or disabled boot-security features may fail the checks. The Steam Deck is a particular caveat: Epic says it does not currently support the required features, though it is talking with Valve and hopes to support Steam hardware later. [Phoronix’s technical report](https://www.phoronix.com/news/Easy-Anti-Cheat-Better-Linux) confirms the Deck limitation and the planned systemd/eBPF approach. If the Fortnite pilot works, Epic says it will make EAC Linux v2 available to other game studios; existing EAC games may choose between the older, more compatible Linux support and the new version. Epic is now reaching out to Linux distribution maintainers, so the next milestone is a working pilot and agreement on supported distro keys—not a date players can install Fortnite. The [official EOS Status announcement on X](https://x.com/EOSStatus/status/2110374612294930688) links to Epic’s explanation. ~linux ~gaming

Nintendo released a new overview trailer for its Switch 2 remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Oct. 14, showing how the classic’s signature music mechanic will work with the console’s microphone. The game is scheduled to launch exclusively on Switch 2 on Nov. 5. Players can hum a learned melody or play it on a real instrument; the console’s microphone will recognize it and make Link’s in-game ocarina respond. Nintendo also revealed the Hall of Fallen Heroes, where players can view statues and descriptions of defeated enemies and challenge some foes again. Nintendo Wire notes that the trailer does not explain how players access the hall or whether every boss can be rematched. The official overview adds overhauled visuals, fully voiced cutscenes with expanded dialogue and symphonic orchestral music. Nintendo says the game will also work with Zelda Notes in the Nintendo Switch App. Two new Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo are planned for 2027, while existing Zelda amiibo will unlock in-game rewards. Nintendo lists the game at $59.99 in the US and a separate Electric Ocarina accessory at $49.99. The microphone feature gives players a choice between humming and using an instrument, while the Hall adds a way to revisit enemies beyond the main story. Nintendo has not yet detailed the hall’s unlock conditions or the exact rules for its rematches. You can watch the [official overview trailer and read Nintendo’s feature rundown](https://www.nintendo.com/us/whatsnew/you-have-been-summoned-to-watch-the-new-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time-overview-trailer/); [VICE’s report](https://www.vice.com/en/article/zelda-ocarina-of-time-remake-overview-trailer-features/) and [Nintendo Wire’s breakdown](https://nintendowire.com/news/2026/10/14/zelda-ocarina-of-time-overview-trailer-reveals-new-hall-of-fallen-foes-room-with-boss-rematches/) highlight the newly shown features. ~nintendo ~nintendoswitch2

PS5LM Plus, a community-made app for jailbroken consoles, can run quantized AI models on a PS5’s GPU. Its developer reports Qwen3.8-27B generating at about 20 tokens per second; [Techjunkie Aman’s X post](https://x.com/Techjunkie_Aman/status/2110307764446892271) highlights the demo, and the [PS5LM Plus repository](https://github.com/abhi245y/PS5LM) publishes the app and its test details. PS5LM Plus is a fork of [Mert Cobanov’s original PS5LM project](https://github.com/cobanov/PS5LM), which ports llama.cpp to jailbroken PS5 hardware. The Plus fork adds a native app that uses the console’s GPU through Vulkan and makes a chat interface and API available to other devices on the same network. That turns a jailbroken PS5 into a small local model host: prompts can stay on the home network instead of being sent to a cloud AI service, while models can be downloaded separately from Hugging Face. The headline speed depends on the model setup. The developer lists Qwen3.8-27B UD-Q2_K_XL at 20.3 tokens/s with a 32K context, and a smaller 6.8 GiB quantized version at 20.7 tokens/s with a 64K context. The same README reports 61 tokens/s for Gemma 4 E4B and 124 for Llama 3.2 3B. These are the developer’s own results, not independent benchmark tests. The figures also describe generated output, not model quality or how quickly a long prompt is processed. [Hardware Upgrade’s report](https://www.hwupgrade.it/news/web/ps5-e-ia-generativa-qwen-27b-gira-sulla-gpu-con-ps5lm-plus_160566.html) likewise notes that the results depend on quantization and test conditions. This is not an AI feature for an ordinary PS5: the app requires a jailbreak and other homebrew components. The project’s published measurements come from one PS5 Slim (CFI-2015) on firmware 13.60, according to its [console notes](https://github.com/abhi245y/PS5LM/blob/main/docs/CONSOLE.md), so they do not establish compatibility across every console model or firmware. If you’re checking your own setup, start with [our PS5 Scene guide to supported firmware and setup](https://www.mushimu.com/post/8726). The next useful evidence will be repeatable tests on additional hardware and clearer compatibility notes. ~ps5scene ~ai

Ukraine says new movement limits on Starlink terminals disrupted several military drone missions overnight on Oct. 14. The reports point to a restriction on terminals while they are moving, not a shutdown of Starlink across the country. Presidential adviser Serhiy Beskrestnov said the Defense Forces received no advance notice. [Reuters](https://www.investing.com/news/stock-market-news/ukraine-says-spacex-limits-starlink-operations-disrupting-military-4948343) reported that he described a cutoff above 160 km/h for the military-grade service. Ukraine’s 7th Rapid Reaction Corps told Reuters that some units instead saw 10–20 second connection drops at 110–120 km/h and had to cancel missions. The exact limit and which terminals are affected remain unclear. The [Associated Press](https://apnews.com/article/russia-ukraine-war-zelenskyy-burnham-trump-putin-9fe44ec1bb361f19d46dfafb58da46f6) also reported that the speed restriction disrupted drone operations, citing Beskrestnov. This matters because Ukrainian forces use satellite links to control long-range drones and interceptors, and for logistics near the front. Even brief outages can make a drone harder to control or force a mission to be abandoned. The reporting does not show how many units or missions were affected across the country. Ukraine’s Defense Ministry is contacting SpaceX, the United States and NATO partners about the restrictions, according to a source cited by [Ukrinform](https://www.ukrinform.net/rubric-ato/4174375-ukraines-mod-in-contact-with-us-spacex-nato-partners-over-starshield-restrictions-source.html). SpaceX had not responded to Reuters’ request for comment, and the reason for the change has not been established. Reuters noted that the restriction came amid Washington’s pressure on Kyiv over strikes on Russian oil refineries, but the timing alone does not show the two are connected. The next key details are whether SpaceX clarifies the affected service and threshold, and whether Ukraine can restore uninterrupted links or shift missions to alternatives. ~worldnews ~ukraine ~starlink

Singapore’s Maritime and Port Authority has identified the container ship that sank in the Strait of Hormuz as the GFS Pride. The authority says it was struck by an unknown projectile on Oct. 13, caught fire and later sank. All 21 crew members were evacuated safely; no injuries were reported. The same MPA statement says a second Singapore-registered vessel, the GFS Giselle, was hit by an unknown projectile on Oct. 14. It sustained hull damage but reached a safe anchorage under its own power. Its 22 crew members were also safe and uninjured. There were no Singaporeans aboard either ship. [CNA reports the authority’s account](https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/vessels-singapore-registered-struck-strait-hormuz-6459176), and the [MPA statement](https://www.mpa.gov.sg/media-centre/details/two-singapore-registered-vessels-struck-in-strait-of-hormuz) is the primary source. That identifies the vessel behind the sinking reported earlier, but it does not settle what hit it. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Navy said a cargo ship sank after striking a mine; the MPA describes unknown projectiles and does not identify who was responsible or confirm a mine. It is not clear whether Iran’s statement referred to the GFS Pride. The [Associated Press](https://apnews.com/article/7e2c57a29fd5c3afc7ffe0cf63954bf3) reported that UKMTO had not immediately confirmed Iran’s account. Separately, Reuters reports that the Antigua and Barbuda-flagged bulk carrier Cape Dao, damaged by a projectile on Sept. 23, is now reported to be sinking after an unsuccessful salvage attempt. That is a different vessel and incident; the report attributes the update to maritime risk group Vanguard. Reuters also counted at least five commercial-vessel incidents around Hormuz in the prior 48 hours, underscoring the risks to crews and shipping through a route central to global energy trade. The crew toll from the two Singapore-registered ships is now clear: all 43 people are safe. What remains unconfirmed is who launched the projectiles, whether a mine caused the GFS Pride’s sinking, and the full status of the separate Cape Dao salvage operation. [Reuters’ reporting](https://theprint.in/world/container-ship-sinks-near-hormuz-after-being-hit-by-projectile-sources-say/3071779/) cites maritime security sources and Vanguard for those wider developments. ~worldnews ~iran ~shipping

China’s goods-trade surplus reached $938.1 billion in the first nine months of 2026 after exports jumped 36.3% year on year in September. The figures put China on pace to exceed last year’s record $1.2 trillion surplus, although the final-quarter results will determine whether it does. [Reuters](https://www.marketscreener.com/news/china-s-september-exports-soar-putting-1-trillion-trade-surplus-in-sight-ce785dd2db89f72d) and [AP](https://apnews.com/article/db43e08437b65f65c2ead64c82f9b990) report the customs data released Wednesday. September exports totaled $447.18 billion, while imports rose 31% to $313.65 billion. That left a monthly surplus of $133.53 billion, up from $119.1 billion in August. Export growth accelerated from 25% the previous month; imports also grew faster than in August, so the headline gap reflects both brisker exports and stronger inbound trade. High-tech shipments helped drive the rise. AP, citing customs data, reports semiconductor export value was up 108.1% year on year for January–September; exports of data-processing equipment and parts rose 54.6%, and cars 54.3%. Reuters says global demand for semiconductors and green-technology products has supported factory output, while weak domestic demand and investment continue to weigh on China’s economy. The customs figures measure trade value, so they do not by themselves show how much growth came from higher shipment volumes versus prices. The imbalance is adding to pressure from trading partners worried about Chinese goods competing with domestic manufacturers. China and the EU announced an initial trade understanding on October 9, but September’s figures predate it; they cannot show whether the talks will change the trend. The next quarter’s data will show whether exports keep widening the surplus or imports catch up. ~worldnews ~china ~trade

Russia launched a large-scale attack on Kyiv and other parts of Ukraine overnight on October 13–14, striking a residential building and energy infrastructure. The latest Kyiv figures reported by The Kyiv Independent were four people killed and 25 injured. Earlier reports carried lower counts as rescue work continued. A missile hit a nine-storey apartment building in Kyiv’s Desnianskyi district. Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi said all three of the capital’s combined heat and power plants were attacked. President Volodymyr Zelensky said the nationwide barrage involved 39 ballistic missiles and more than 120 strike drones and loitering munitions, and that around 600,000 people across Ukraine were without power. The number refers to the countrywide outage, not Kyiv alone. City officials also reported a disabled pumping station and reduced water pressure in the Pecherskyi district. Ukraine’s Air Force said it neutralized four ballistic missiles and 115 drones. Officials have not detailed the damage at the power plants or provided a repair timetable, so the extent of any generation loss remains unclear. Zelensky said Ukraine detected the missiles only as they approached Kyiv and said partners again gave no advance warning, for a second consecutive day. The strikes could affect electricity and heating as Ukraine approaches the cold season. The Kyiv Independent’s developing report tracks the casualty figures and infrastructure damage: https://kyivindependent.com/kyiv-residential-building-struck-by-russia-as-ukraine-says-intelligence-sharing-from-partners-interrupted/ Zelensky attributed the nationwide outage figure to the attack; ABC News also reported around 600,000 people without power: https://abcnews.com/International/600000-power-ukraine-russia-launches-missile-drone-attack/story?id=137248732 ~worldnews ~ukraine

https://x.com/ZelenskyyUa/status/2109938651706634261 Ukraine says it is again receiving early warnings from partner countries about Russian attacks, after a gap that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said lasted at least a week. Speaking in Oslo on Oct. 20, he linked the change to recent contacts with U.S. officials, including a call with Secretary of State Marco Rubio earlier that day. Zelenskyy’s verified [statement on X](https://x.com/ZelenskyyUa/status/2112434684441325625) and the [Ukrainian presidency’s readout](https://www.president.gov.ua/en/news/rannye-poperedzhennya-pro-rosijski-ataki-balistikoyu-ta-situ-106965) confirm that they discussed ballistic-missile interceptors and early warning. Neither specifies which partner channel resumed or what changed technically. In comments reported by the [Associated Press](https://apnews.com/article/russia-ukraine-zelenskyy-norway-trump-rubio-witkoff-140895c6c0a1682c46f4fe197e056996), Zelenskyy said warnings were working again; Rubio said U.S. policy had not changed and denied any directive to withhold intelligence. That leaves an important distinction: Kyiv’s reported return of warnings is not evidence that Washington changed its intelligence-sharing policy. The public accounts do not identify the technical cause of the earlier gap, the specific channel that resumed, or whether the warnings will remain consistent. The [Kyiv Independent](https://kyivindependent.com/zelensky-rubio-discuss-critical-military-systems-amid-us-ukraine-tensions/) also reports that weather or a software issue had been cited by U.S. officials for earlier interruptions. The first incident discussed here was the Oct. 12 Kyiv strike, when Ukrainian officials said alerts arrived after ballistic missiles were already on their way. The video at the top is Zelenskyy’s Oct. 13 post about that attack; it does not establish a broader suspension of intelligence sharing.

Ubuntu’s optional Myna dictation tool is now open for community testing as a technology preview. It turns speech into text in the active app, and Canonical says transcription runs on the computer: after downloading a model, it works offline and audio is not uploaded or stored. Myna is dictation only; it does not act as a voice assistant or control the desktop. The preview supports Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, 26.04 LTS and 26.10 on amd64/amd64v3 systems using GNOME on Wayland. That means it is not yet a general Linux desktop feature: other desktop environments and architectures are outside the published support list. Canonical says a supported NVIDIA GPU can accelerate some engines, while support for more accelerators is planned. The available engines include Parakeet, Whisper and FunASR, with different language coverage, accuracy and hardware needs. Canonical says the project is still under active development and users should expect rough edges. The preview is useful for testing privacy, language support and application compatibility, not a promise that dictation will work equally well on every setup. To try it, Canonical’s [installation instructions](https://ubuntu.com/blog/myna-speech-to-text-technology-preview-available) add its Myna PPA and install the settings app: `sudo add-apt-repository ppa:canonical-desktop-team/myna` `sudo apt install myna-config` [OMG! Ubuntu’s report](https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2026/10/ubuntu-release-myna-tech-preview/) also notes that model choice affects language coverage and hardware demands. The next useful test is how well it handles different accents and microphones; Canonical is asking preview users to report those results. ~linux ~ai

Argentina has asked the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea to order a temporary halt to the Sea Lion oil project near the Falkland Islands, known in Argentina as the Islas Malvinas. The filing, reported on October 13 by the [Associated Press](https://apnews.com/article/2a78578f0a9ffda403f4721c4e1d304f) and [Reuters](https://www.internazionale.it/ultime-notizie-reuters/2026/10/13/argentina-seeks-tribunal-order-against-uk-oil-activity-near-falklands), seeks provisional measures against the planned $2.2 billion development by Britain’s Rockhopper Exploration and Israel’s Navitas Petroleum. AP reports the companies expect production to begin in 2028. This is the next step after President Javier Milei’s government announced on September 28 that it was starting arbitration under the U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea and gave the U.K. two weeks to stop the project. Argentina says it is defending sovereign rights over its continental shelf; the [official announcement](https://ealem.cancilleria.gob.ar/es/comunicado-oficial-n%C3%BAmero-166-comunicado-oficial-de-la-oficina-del-presidente-javier-milei-0) set out that position. Britain rejects Argentina’s jurisdiction, says the project is lawful under Falkland Islands regulation, and says it will engage with the tribunal process. Its position was restated in Parliament on Tuesday, AP and Reuters report. The filing itself does not stop construction or cancel permits. Reuters reports the British government said it was not a judgment and did not require hydrocarbon activity to cease; the companies have said they do not expect Argentina’s actions to derail development. No tribunal ruling or timetable for the request was reported on Tuesday. The immediate question is whether the tribunal grants interim measures while the arbitration proceeds. That decision could affect a high-value project in a long-running sovereignty dispute, but it will not settle who owns the islands. The Falklands have been administered by the U.K. since 1833; Argentina maintains its claim. For now, both governments have stated their positions, and the project’s planned 2028 start remains a forecast, not a guarantee. ~worldnews ~energy

Meta has launched Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full, two models built for tasks that can span multiple steps and retain context. The release puts Meta into the frontier-model market, but the versions have different access: Wonder is available through Meta’s Model API and Muse Code, while Wonder Full is currently limited to Muse Code subscribers. Meta says integration into its consumer app is coming later, without giving a date ([Meta’s launch details](https://about.fb.com/news/2026/10/introducing-muse-wonder-models/)). Wonder’s API price is $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens, according to [Meta’s developer listing](https://dev.meta.ai/models/muse-wonder). Meta highlights Active Memory, which carries context across conversations, and Active Focus, which is intended to keep an agent working toward a goal. Those features could help with work such as handling documents or building apps, while raising questions about what personal data an agent retains and how users can inspect or clear it. Meta calls the models its most capable yet. [TechCrunch’s review of Meta’s published benchmarks](https://techcrunch.com/2026/10/12/meta-releases-its-first-frontier-model-muse-wonder/) notes results in the range of leading systems on some evaluations; those comparisons come from the company’s own test card, not an independent head-to-head audit. Meta says it will publish a fuller safety evaluation later, so its performance and safety claims remain only partly assessable from public evidence. In its launch thread, Meta describes how Active Memory and Active Focus are meant to work: https://x.com/AIatMeta/status/2109691156258783589 Meta has not announced when Wonder Full will leave the subscription tier or when either model will arrive in the consumer app. Developers will need to test their own workloads and compare quality and cost before building around persistent agent memory. ~ai

Apple introduced HomeView, a new screen-based smart-home hub, on Tuesday alongside the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini 2. The launch brings entertainment, home controls and Siri AI together across the company’s home products. One major caveat for European buyers: Apple says HomeView will not be sold in the EU while Siri AI remains unavailable on iOS there, and it has not given a European release date. The tabletop and wall-mounted HomeView each cost $299 in the U.S. and are available to preorder in selected markets, with retail availability from November 13. Its 7-inch display can personalize content for up to six recognized household members, show up to nine camera feeds, run FaceTime calls and control compatible smart-home devices. Apple says the assistant can use personal context when paired with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad. Apple’s [HomeView announcement](https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2026/10/meet-apple-homeview-a-new-way-to-enjoy-entertainment-and-manage-the-home/) lists the regional limits; the company says it is working with the EU but has set no timetable. The new Apple TV 4K also costs $299 in the U.S. and arrives November 13. It moves to an A19 chip, with Apple claiming up to 50 percent faster CPU performance and twice the GPU performance versus the previous model; it adds three far-field microphones, AV1 decoding and Precision Finding for the Siri Remote. Pairing it with four HomePod mini 2 speakers enables a four-speaker surround setup for the first time. The [Apple TV announcement](https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2026/10/apple-unveils-the-new-apple-tv-4k/) says Siri AI will launch in English only in a limited set of countries, not the EU. HomePod mini 2 costs $149 in the U.S., with preorders open and store availability from October 30. It adds Apple’s S10 chip, new colors and audio features; Siri AI is promised in a future software update, so it will not be available immediately on the speaker. Apple’s [HomePod announcement](https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2026/10/apple-announces-the-next-generation-of-homepod-mini/) gives the supported launch regions. The three devices’ prices are U.S. prices; Apple has not announced EU pricing for HomeView. Saudi Arabia’s Energy Ministry said an attack on an administrative building at Saudi Aramco’s Dhahran complex caused a limited fire on Tuesday, October 13, with no deaths or injuries. A company source told Reuters that a ballistic missile hit the complex and damaged the top three floors of an office tower. On Wednesday, the Houthis claimed they had struck Aramco facilities and vowed further attacks on Saudi oil sites and airports. The claim is now public, though the group did not specify the timing of each target it listed. [Reuters](https://www.aol.com/articles/yemens-houthis-vow-more-attacks-094852000.html) reported the claim; [AP](https://apnews.com/article/c81a91347c00b17097c8fafde7e4eeec) cited two regional officials who said executive offices were hit, with one saying the Aramco chief executive’s office was among them. The coalition had separately said fragments from an intercepted missile fell in a residential area of Dhahran. Officials have not said whether that interception was connected to the damage at Aramco. The Houthis had threatened to target the Dhahran headquarters after Saudi-led forces warned civilians to evacuate Yemen’s Al-Sabaha Central Station in Sanaa. The coalition spokesman posted that evacuation warning and a map on [his official X account](https://x.com/CJFCSpox/status/2109983110402019342). Houthi-affiliated Al-Masirah said coalition airstrikes hit facilities near Sanaa; the [Associated Press could not independently verify](https://apnews.com/article/yemen-houthis-saudi-arabia-strikes-threats-307d49abfe63ff66c99c318d94ca3e15) the exact sites or damage. Yemen’s oil company said its storage tanks were empty and supplies would not be affected, a claim not independently confirmed. Saudi Civil Defense said debris from two intercepted cruise missiles injured four people—two women, a man and a child—and caused limited damage to 15 homes in Riyadh, according to [AP](https://apnews.com/article/yemen-houthis-saudi-arabia-strikes-threats-307d49abfe63ff66c99c318d94ca3e15). These were reported separately from the fire at the Aramco complex. On Wednesday, the coalition said it intercepted more missiles and drones involving Riyadh, Dhahran and Al-Kharj, AP reported. [Qatar News Agency](https://qna.org.qa/en/news/news-details?date=14%2F10%2F2026&id=coalition-to-restore-legitimacy-in-yemen-announces-interception-destruction-of-ballistic-missile-towards-riyadh) confirmed a ballistic missile aimed at Riyadh was intercepted and cruise missiles had earlier been destroyed over Al-Kharj. The Dhahran site houses a major Aramco operations centre that oversees oil fields, pipelines, refineries and export terminals. The ministry confirmed a limited fire, but the sources reviewed do not establish any interruption to production or exports. The Houthis also said Russia and China had contacted them seeking a ceasefire, according to AP; neither government independently confirmed that account, and no ceasefire agreement has been announced. The next key details are the extent of damage to the executive offices, any effect on Aramco operations, and whether diplomatic contacts lead to confirmed talks. For the separate Riyadh airport closure and flight disruption, see [our continuing update](https://www.mushimu.com/post/8913). ~worldnews ~energy

Nuremberg Airport resumed flights shortly after 1:30 p.m. local time on Tuesday after police closed it during an emergency response to Corendon Airlines flight XR456 from Corfu. The cockpit transmitted transponder code 7500, used to signal a hijacking or other unlawful interference, and air traffic controllers then lost radio contact with the pilots, police told local outlet [Nordbayern](https://www.nordbayern.de/nuernberg/unbestatigte-luftnotlage-am-flughafen-nurnberg-code-fur-entfuhrung-kam-aus-cockpit-1.15314281). The code triggered an alert; it is not evidence that the aircraft had been seized. Corendon said a brief radio communications-system fault over Croatian airspace at about 09:00 UTC triggered the alert, according to the airline statement quoted by [HavaHaber](https://havahaber.com/corendon-airlinestan-aciklama-ucak-nurnberge-guvenli-indi/). Two German Eurofighters escorted the Boeing 737, which landed safely at about 12:15 p.m. Police contacted the crew, evacuated passengers and said checks found no danger, [BR24 reported](https://www.br.de/nachrichten/bayern/flughafen-nuernberg-entwarnung-nach-mutmasslicher-luftnotlage,VXvMxwh). No passengers or crew were harmed. The airport closure followed separate early-morning reports of a possible drone. Three pilots reported seeing an object between 2 and 4 a.m.; police searched with patrols and a helicopter but found no drone. The airport said six flights were delayed and two inbound flights diverted during that earlier response. Authorities have not linked those reports to the later transponder alert. Police are still investigating how the communications fault led to the 7500 code. The airport has reopened, but travelers should check with their airline for any remaining knock-on delays. ~worldnews ~germany

At the IMF–World Bank annual meetings in Bangkok on Wednesday, October 14, Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva warned that the United States and other wealthy economies cannot rely on growth alone to bring down rising debt. The warning adds a concrete fiscal risk to the IMF’s October outlook: global growth is holding up, but financing costs and the energy shock are narrowing governments’ room to respond. The IMF’s October 13 World Economic Outlook projects global growth of 3.1% in 2026, up from the 3.0% forecast in July, and 3.4% in 2027. The modest upgrade reflects resilience partly supported by AI-related investment. The fund’s baseline assumes an average oil price of $96 a barrel this year and that shipments through the Strait of Hormuz resume by March 2027; those are assumptions, not guarantees. A prolonged disruption or a pullback in AI spending could weaken the outlook. Georgieva told the Associated Press that the U.S. national debt is above $40 trillion and that expanding the economy would not by itself deliver the adjustments needed to reduce the deficit. She called for tighter fiscal policy. Reuters separately reported her warning that higher benchmark yields in advanced economies are spilling into poorer countries; average debt-service costs there have risen to 14% of government revenue, from 6% a decade ago. The IMF’s Fiscal Monitor puts global public debt at nearly 94% of GDP in 2025 and projects it could reach 100% by 2029 if current trends continue. The report says interest payments in low-income developing countries reached 2.3% of GDP, or nearly 15% of revenue, in 2025. These are group-wide figures, not the experience of every country. When more public revenue goes to debt service, governments have less room for health, education and investment, especially as development aid declines. The IMF is urging governments to reduce deficits before markets force sharper adjustments, while protecting essential services. It has not prescribed one identical plan for every country; tax capacity, spending pressures and debt conditions differ. The next test is whether governments respond to the higher borrowing costs and whether energy shipments through Hormuz normalize on the WEO’s assumed timetable. Jason Schreier from Bloomberg has published a massive article about the development of GTA 6 after visiting Rockstar’s offices and speaking with some of the people leading the project. There’s actually a lot of interesting stuff here, especially about the NPCs, Jason and Lucia’s relationship, and what Rockstar plans to do after GTA 6. Here’s a summary of the most interesting bits. Development and why it’s taken so long * GTA 6 has been in full development for over eight years, making it Rockstar’s biggest project ever. * The original plan was much bigger, with parts of North and South America included in the map. Eventually, Rockstar scaled everything down to Vice City and the surrounding areas. * Red Dead Redemption 2 took up so many resources that GTA 6’s development was delayed by several years. * Rockstar has grown from 2,441 employees in 2018 to 4,711 in 2026, spread across 12 studios. * The early development period was apparently known internally as the “dark period” because the team was struggling to figure out exactly what the game should be. * The main story involving Jason and Lucia was already established by late 2019, but it wasn’t until 2022 that the different systems started coming together. The open world sounds absolutely insane One of Rockstar’s main goals was to make the world feel genuinely alive, rather than just filling the streets with NPCs walking around. Jason and Lucia can apparently spend time together outside story missions. You can even text Lucia while playing as Jason and arrange to meet her somewhere. Getting their relationship to work naturally in the open world required years of work on the game’s AI systems. But the most interesting part of the Bloomberg article is a gameplay demonstration. Phil Hooker, one of Rockstar’s development leads, was trying to reach a story mission when he accidentally hit another vehicle. He went into a convenience store to recover his health, but another NPC started insulting him. Things escalated into a fight, and he noticed the cash register was unattended, so he robbed the store. The police came after him, forcing him to steal another car. He then encountered a vehicle blasting music, followed it, and discovered a compound containing valuables. After stealing those valuables, he visited someone who could buy them, which led to yet another activity. Two hours had passed, and he still hadn’t reached the story mission he originally wanted to test. Apparently, none of that sequence was scripted. It emerged naturally from the interactions between NPCs, police, criminal activities and the environment. Rockstar considers this kind of unpredictable gameplay one of GTA 6’s biggest achievements. They even created an entirely new studio in Los Angeles dedicated to producing NPC content because the existing teams couldn’t keep up with the amount they wanted. Leaks, delays and working conditions The massive 2022 leak was apparently devastating for the developers. Rockstar described it as deeply invasive, particularly because the footage showed unfinished work that was never intended for the public. COVID also caused significant problems, especially with motion capture. Rockstar says the delays weren’t caused by one specific technical issue. The problem was getting all these incredibly complex systems working together. They also tried to avoid the extreme crunch associated with RDR2, when some employees were working around 60 hours per week for months. According to management, conditions have improved, although crunch hasn’t disappeared completely. Remote work was restricted for security reasons, and Rockstar may reconsider its policies after launch. A couple of other details: * Rockstar denied rumors that GTA 6’s development budget exceeded $1.5 billion. * GTA 6 Online is expected in 2027, although Rockstar hasn’t officially detailed its launch plans. * Take-Two’s CEO was reportedly surprised by the second delay but supported Rockstar’s decision. And what happens after GTA 6? This might actually be the most exciting part. Rockstar believes the technology, tools and development pipelines created for GTA 6 will allow them to make future games considerably faster. They compared it to the transition from GTA III to Vice City, when they could build another game relatively quickly because the technological foundation was already there. The developers don’t expect their next project to require another eight years of development. Obviously, that doesn’t mean GTA 7 or Red Dead Redemption 3 is coming anytime soon, but it’s encouraging. Personally, I’d love to see Rockstar return to releasing games more frequently. Imagine getting Bully 2 or RDR3 without another decade-long wait. And honestly, the description of that unscripted two-hour gameplay session has made me even more excited for GTA 6. What do you think? Is Rockstar taking open-world games to another level, or are we getting a bit carried away with the hype? https://www.bloomberg.com/features/2026-grand-theft-auto-6-making-of/
