Xbox is reportedly preparing to cut hundreds more jobs this week and consolidate several of its game studios, according to The Information, citing someone briefed on Microsoft’s plans. Coverage from Gematsu and Video Games Chronicle (VGC) frames this as a second major staff reduction in 2026, after July’s Xbox Reset. In July, Xbox eliminated about 1,600 roles, divested five studios, and said another roughly 1,600 cuts would follow by the end of fiscal year 2027. The Information’s new reporting says several studios will be consolidated; specific studio names were not disclosed. VGC notes the report points toward mergers or movement across Xbox Game Studios, Bethesda, Activision, and Blizzard. Separately, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier said on the 8-4 Play podcast that Blizzard layoffs are “imminent,” after the studio recently announced STARCRAFT, Diablo V, and World of Warcraft: Forever. Microsoft has not publicly confirmed the September report or named affected teams. Halo-to-Activision rumors circulating alongside the story remain unverified and are not part of The Information’s core claim. Saudi Arabia issued emergency alerts in Riyadh overnight warning residents of a “hostile aerial threat,” marking the first such warning in the capital since the latest escalation involving Yemen’s Houthi movement. Explosions were heard in Riyadh, while smoke and flames were later seen near King Khalid International Airport. Saudi authorities subsequently issued an all-clear. So far, no casualties have been reported. The incident comes amid a broader escalation in the Middle East, with tensions involving Saudi Arabia, the Houthis, Iran, Israel and other regional actors continuing to grow. The situation is particularly significant because of Saudi Arabia’s role in global energy markets and the proximity of the conflict to major international shipping routes. Do you think this escalation risks turning into a wider regional conflict?

Blizzard appears to be aiming for a much stronger role-playing focus with Diablo V. Jennifer Hepler, a BioWare veteran who worked as a writer on the Dragon Age series, is leading the game’s narrative — and the team is reportedly looking at traditional RPGs such as Dragon Age and Baldur’s Gate for inspiration. That could mean a bigger emphasis on storytelling, characters, dialogue and player choice rather than focusing almost entirely on the loot grind. Personally, I think this could be a really interesting direction for Diablo. The series has always had a great world and lore, but the RPG side of it has often felt secondary to builds, loot and endgame progression. Would you like Diablo V to lean further into traditional RPG mechanics, or should Diablo stick to being an action RPG first?

I’ve been looking through everything Blizzard has shown about WoW: Forever over the last few days and honestly, I expected this to be another Classic experiment I’d forget about after a week. But the more I see, the more interested I am. The basic idea is pretty much what people have been asking for with Classic+ for years: keep the level cap at 60 and keep expanding Azeroth instead of moving everyone to the next expansion. And Blizzard seems to be going much further with it than I expected. The Skyborne are probably the weirdest addition The biggest new thing is obviously the Skyborne, the new playable race. They’re not locked to Alliance or Horde, which already makes them pretty unusual for WoW, and Blizzard has made an entirely new starting experience for them. They even have their own Druid forms. I’m still not completely sure how I feel about them. They look cool, but adding a completely new race to something that’s supposed to feel like old-school WoW could either work really well or feel completely out of place. Still, I’d rather see Blizzard try something new than just give us vanilla again. Skyborne screenshots: https://worldofwarcraft.blizzard.com/en-us/news/24303862/world-of-warcraft-forever-whats-next-panel-recap The new zones are what really sold me This is probably the part I care about most. Forever isn’t just adding a few quests to existing areas. Blizzard is opening up completely new parts of Azeroth. There are apparently more than 1,000 new quests, new leveling areas and completely new level 60 content. That’s basically what I always imagined Classic+ being. Not Classic with faster leveling. Not Classic with a few different abilities. Actually taking the original world and asking: “What else could have existed here?” https://news.blizzard.com/en-us/article/24302093/chart-a-new-course-with-world-of-warcraft-forever Zephras Isle looks surprisingly good The Skyborne start in Zephras Isle, a completely new area. From what Blizzard has shown so far, it has this strange mix of classic Warcraft environments with a more elemental/Skywall kind of architecture. It definitely doesn’t look like something that was sitting unfinished on a hard drive since 2004, but at the same time it doesn’t look completely disconnected from Azeroth either. I’m really curious to actually walk around it rather than just seeing screenshots. Images and footage of Zephras Isle: https://worldofwarcraft.blizzard.com/en-us/news/24303862/world-of-warcraft-forever-whats-next-panel-recap Mount Hyjal is finally becoming proper content This might actually be my favorite part. Mount Hyjal is becoming a proper level 60 endgame zone. Anyone who played old WoW probably remembers all those places that looked like they were supposed to lead somewhere but never really did. Hyjal always felt like one of them. And this is exactly the kind of thing I want Forever to do. Don’t invent another continent. Take the places that already exist in Azeroth and finally do something with them. https://worldofwarcraft.blizzard.com/en-us/news/24303862/world-of-warcraft-forever-whats-next-panel-recap And then there’s Riverglades Riverglades is another completely new zone, aimed roughly at the mid-level part of the game. Blizzard says it contains more than 150 quests by itself. This is probably the stuff I’m most excited to explore. One of my favorite things about vanilla WoW was simply walking into a zone I had never seen before and having absolutely no idea what was there. If Forever can bring some of that feeling back, I’ll be happy. Riverglades screenshots: https://worldofwarcraft.blizzard.com/en-us/news/24303862/world-of-warcraft-forever-whats-next-panel-recap There are a lot of new dungeons Blizzard has also revealed a bunch of new dungeon locations. Some of the names shown so far include Hall of Thanes, Ruins of Lordaeron, Dalaran, Alcaz Prison, Blackmaw Hold, The Drowned City and Krol’dok Stronghold. That’s probably where Forever has the most potential. There are so many places in vanilla WoW that were basically scenery, unfinished ideas or locations you could see but never properly explore. Now Blizzard can actually use them. Level 60 staying forever could be really interesting This is probably the most important part of the whole thing. The level cap stays at 60. So instead of: 60 → 70 → 80 → 90… Blizzard can just keep adding more stuff at level 60. In theory, that means old raids don’t immediately become completely pointless whenever new content comes out. Obviously we’ll have to see how they handle gear progression because this could become a complete mess after a few years. But I really like the idea. There are already new raids planned, including new level 60 content around Hyjal. Raid/dungeon information and screenshots: https://worldofwarcraft.blizzard.com/en-us/news/24303862/world-of-warcraft-forever-whats-next-panel-recap It’s not completely stuck in 2004 either Forever keeps the Classic style, but Blizzard is making some changes. There are visual improvements, optional newer character models, controller support, talent changes and various quality-of-life additions. The world itself is getting little graphical touches too — better water, fog, lighting and environmental effects. Personally, that’s fine with me. I want old Azeroth. I don’t necessarily need every tree to have the same number of polygons it had in 2004. The thing I’m worried about The difficult part is going to be knowing when to stop. Right now the idea sounds great: Classic Azeroth. Level 60. New zones. New raids. New dungeons. New quests. Keep expanding the same world. But if Blizzard keeps adding modern systems and convenience features over the next few years, at what point does Forever just become Retail with a Classic skin? That’s probably my biggest concern. If they can keep the slower progression, class identity, dangerous world and social side of Classic while adding genuinely new content, I think this could be really good. And the beta starts now The WoW: Forever beta starts September 17, so we’re finally going to see actual players exploring all of this. That’s what I’m waiting for. Screenshots are one thing. I want to see what these zones actually feel like when you’re running around them, how the new quests compare with vanilla quests and whether the Skyborne actually feel like they belong in Azeroth. Beta details: https://worldofwarcraft.blizzard.com/en-us/news/24301508 For now though, I’m way more interested in Forever than I expected to be. I’ve wanted Blizzard to do something like this with old Azeroth for years. Now they just have to not screw it up. What do you guys think? Would you actually play WoW long-term if the level cap stayed at 60 and Blizzard just kept expanding Azeroth? Or do you think Forever will eventually become Retail with a Classic skin?

https://thumbsnap.com/siWL9Hrv More details about Sony’s rumored next-gen handheld, reportedly codenamed Project Canis, have leaked — and if even half of this is accurate, Sony might be planning something much more ambitious than another PlayStation Portal. According to the latest rumors, the handheld could feature: • A custom 3nm AMD chip • 6 Zen 6 CPU cores • 16 RDNA 5 Compute Units • 24GB of LPDDR5X unified memory • Around 15–25W TDP • Sony’s next-generation PSSR 3.0 upscaling and frame generation • Support for running PS4 and PS5 games locally One of the most interesting parts is how Sony apparently plans to use PSSR. Demanding games could render internally at resolutions as low as 540p, with PSSR reconstructing the image to 1080p. That might sound terrible on paper, but with dedicated AI hardware and a sufficiently good reconstruction model, it could allow PS5-level games to run on a device using a fraction of the power. The leak claims roughly 4.9 TFLOPS in handheld mode and around 6.75 TFLOPS when docked. Some reports are throwing around figures of up to “14 TFLOPS equivalent” after reconstruction, but I wouldn’t compare that directly with the raw TFLOPS numbers of a PS5 or PS5 Pro. Upscaling doesn’t magically double the physical GPU. Still, the actual hardware sounds very interesting. What excites me most is the idea of Sony finally making a real standalone PlayStation handheld again. Not a Remote Play device, but something that can actually run games locally. If Sony can offer native PS4/PS5 compatibility, decent battery life and good image quality through PSSR, this could basically be the modern successor to the PSP/Vita people have wanted for years. Of course, none of this has been officially confirmed by Sony yet, so take the specs with a big grain of salt. But if Project Canis is real… I’m definitely interested. Would you buy a new PlayStation handheld if it could run your PS4 and PS5 library locally?

I’ve been playing the new season for a bit and honestly… I’m having way more fun with it than I expected. The thing I like the most is probably all the stuff from the older Diablo games. Seeing Diablo, Baal, Mephisto and some of the old locations again is just really cool. Yeah, it’s obviously nostalgia bait, but I don’t really care if it works lol. The Runewords are probably my favourite part though. Finding runes again and seeing names like Spirit, Stealth, Enigma, etc. instantly reminded me of Diablo II. I’m not saying D4 should just become D2, because I actually like the combat and general feel of Diablo IV, but I think bringing back some of these older systems gives the game a lot more personality. It also makes loot a bit more interesting for me. Normally I’m at the point where I pick something up, look at the stats for two seconds and salvage it. With the runes I’m actually paying attention again and thinking about what I could make. I also really like fighting the old bosses in D4’s engine. Seeing them recreated with the modern graphics and combat is probably one of those things I didn’t know I wanted until they did it. My only issue is that I already know this is seasonal content, so there’s a good chance a lot of it disappears again. I really hope the Runewords stay in some form. Same with some of these classic boss encounters. They don’t need to keep every seasonal mechanic forever, obviously, but it would be a shame if all of this just vanished after a few months. For me this is actually the kind of nostalgia Diablo IV needs. Not just skins or references in dialogue, but actual gameplay stuff from the older games being brought back and reworked for D4. Maybe I’m just the target audience because I played a stupid amount of Diablo II, but I’ve genuinely enjoyed this season so far. Anyone else liking it? And what other stuff from the older Diablo games would you want them to bring back?

Bungie says it is beginning work to bring vaulted Destiny 2 campaigns, destinations, and raids back into the live game for all players — including the launch Red War campaign — after the studio wound down active Destiny 2 development earlier this year. In a September 21 studio update, Bungie called Destiny “foundational” to its future and wrote: “All of this is to say, we are not done with Destiny.” The studio credits community pushback after Monuments of Triumph was framed as the final Destiny 2 content update, and acknowledges that removing vaulted experiences “had a lasting impact on player trust.” Unvaulting is not a simple file restore: changes since Beyond Light mean lighting, encounters, combatants, and other systems must be updated to current standards, so the studio says the work will take time and more details will arrive in the coming months. Restoration is framed as the first step toward new Destiny stories and games. Separately, Bungie said Marathon underperformed vs hopes and will deepen into a broader survival experience (PvE / PvP / PvPvE), with Nightfall Refresh in October and Symbiosis in December. In his first exclusive interview since PlayStation walked away from Physint, Hideo Kojima told IGN that Sony Interactive Entertainment ended funding for the action-espionage project on a June Zoom call — leaving him so stunned his “mind went blank.” Kojima said Kojima Productions is project-funded as an indie, so losing Physint risked cashflow, bank loans, and ~200 staff (some moved temporarily to OD). He kept the news to a tiny circle at first, then told Physint leads he would find a new partner — and that he “didn’t want to do the same thing we did for P.T.” He pitched Xbox on a broader IP vision (game, film, anime, comics, music), not just a funded title; Xbox snapped it up. Work never fully stopped; engine choice still undecided. Whether Physint ships on PlayStation is “a question for Xbox.” A Kojima Productions statement (also covered by VGC) urges skepticism toward an unnamed report’s claims on Death Stranding performance and Physint planning: none came from official on-the-record sources. The studio says it is “healthy, profitable,” Physint continues with Xbox, and its PlayStation relationship “remains strong.” Sources: https://nordic.ign.com/hideo-kojima-xbox-project/113093/hideo-kojima-reveals-what-happened-with-sony-in-exclusive-first-interview-since-playstation-ditched https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/kojima-productions-asks-players-to-treat-report-on-why-it-switched-from-playstation-to-xbox-with-a-dose-of-scepticism/ Does Sony’s silent June cut change how you see Physint’s Xbox reboot? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzzdyORdg80

Rockstar’s GTA 6 music campaign just lit up. On September 15–16, a coordinated wave of artists posted neon Vice City–style artwork across social media, tagging or mirroring Rockstar’s look without Rockstar spelling out exact roles yet. The first wave includes Travis Scott, Future, Morgan Wallen, Metro Boomin, Yung Lean, Rauw Alejandro, CA7RIEL & Paco Amoroso, Keith Richards, PinkPantheress, and Fred again.. Travis Scott’s post tagged Rockstar, called it “Phase 1,” and teased “J… O. H…..,” which fans widely read as Jack of Hearts — the strip club shown in Rockstar’s Extended Look. # TheFlow Quits PS5 Linux Development, Putting PS5 Pro Support on Hold **PlayStation security researcher Andy Nguyen, better known as TheFlow, has announced that he is stepping away from the PS5 scene and ending his work on PS5 Linux, including planned support for PS5 Pro.** Nguyen [confirmed his departure](https://x.com/theflow0/status/2099987019954831744) after months of work on the project, saying he had originally planned to finish PS5 Pro compatibility and publish it in 2027. That release is now unlikely to happen through Nguyen himself. His decision does not appear to stem from a major technical obstacle. Instead, TheFlow has pointed to frustration with the direction of the PS5 hacking community, particularly the growing use of large language models to discover vulnerabilities and generate exploit code. A dispute involving a PS5 hypervisor vulnerability also appears to have played a major role in his decision. ## TheFlow had been working on PS5 Pro Linux support Nguyen says he spent several months developing the PS5 Linux project and had already started preparing support for Sony’s newer PS5 Pro hardware. The plan was reportedly to finish the work and make it public in 2027. That development has now stopped, leaving PS5 Pro without an official path to Linux support through TheFlow’s project. The current public codebase still focuses on the original PS5 and PS5 Slim, while the PS5 Pro work appears to have remained private. This distinction is important because other developers can continue working on the existing open-source project, but they cannot simply pick up Nguyen’s unfinished PS5 Pro implementation if the relevant code was never published. ## AI-assisted exploit development became a point of frustration One of the main issues raised by Nguyen concerns the increasing use of AI tools in security research. He argues that parts of the console hacking scene are becoming more dependent on large language models for finding bugs and producing exploit code. According to his comments, this can result in developers creating working exploits without necessarily understanding all of the low-level mechanisms involved. That criticism represents Nguyen’s own view of the current PS5 research community and should not be interpreted as applying to every developer involved in console modding. Still, his comments reflect a broader change taking place across software security, where AI tools are increasingly being used for reverse engineering, source-code analysis and vulnerability discovery. ## A PS5 hypervisor vulnerability appears to have triggered the decision The immediate trigger behind Nguyen’s departure appears to involve a previously unknown PS5 hypervisor vulnerability. Nguyen says he had already discovered the flaw and intended to keep it private for future research. Another researcher later reported the vulnerability to Sony after a third party apparently identified the same issue using AI-assisted tools. For Nguyen, that effectively removed one of the remaining valuable vulnerabilities available for his research. He claims that the bug was the final usable hypervisor vulnerability within the environment he had been working with. ## Why PS5 hypervisor exploits are so valuable The hypervisor sits at a highly privileged level within the PlayStation 5 security architecture. Breaking through that layer can potentially provide significantly more control over the system than exploits limited to the browser or even parts of the operating-system kernel. That level of access is particularly valuable for projects such as Linux, hardware research and advanced homebrew development. Nguyen had reportedly chosen not to disclose the vulnerability immediately because keeping it private would allow it to remain useful for future PS5 development. He also says that he asked other researchers to delay reporting the flaw until after the release of **Grand Theft Auto VI**. The idea was that users with vulnerable consoles could potentially purchase and play the game legally while still keeping firmware versions suitable for Linux and homebrew research. According to Nguyen, the researchers initially agreed to wait, but the vulnerability was ultimately reported to Sony soon afterward. ## Vulnerable PS5 consoles may still remain exploitable Sony being informed about the vulnerability does not automatically disable it on every PS5. The company would generally need to patch the issue through a system software update. Consoles that remain on older, vulnerable firmware versions could therefore potentially continue using the exploit if researchers eventually release working code for it. This is already common within console hacking communities, where users interested in homebrew often avoid firmware updates in order to preserve known vulnerabilities. ## Linux already runs on PS5 and PS5 Slim TheFlow’s departure does not affect the Linux code that has already been released. The public **ps5-linux-loader** project remains available and supports selected versions of the original PS5 and PS5 Slim. Depending on the console and exploit used, compatibility currently covers firmware versions ranging approximately from **3.00 to 7.61**. Earlier work has already demonstrated that full Linux distributions can boot on compatible PS5 systems. Ubuntu has also been [successfully demonstrated running on PS5 hardware](https://fanaticosdelhardware.com/ps5-ejecuta-ubuntu-26-04-con-kernel-linux-7-0-tras-publicarse-el-metodo-completo-de-jailbreak/). The Linux environment can access a surprisingly large amount of PS5 hardware. Existing implementations support features including HDMI output at up to 4K60, M.2 SSD storage, Ethernet, internal Bluetooth and Blu-ray hardware. Developers have also made progress with AMD GPU support through Linux graphics drivers. ## PS5 Linux can access the console’s full CPU One of the most significant achievements of the project is access to the PS5’s CPU configuration. Linux can use all **8 cores and 16 threads** of the console’s Zen 2 processor. Available tools also allow CPU frequencies of up to around 3.5 GHz, while the GPU can operate at frequencies close to 2.23 GHz under supported configurations. The system still has limitations and cannot be treated exactly like a traditional PC. Some hardware components remain partially supported or require workarounds, and the overall Linux experience depends heavily on the console firmware and exploit chain being used. Even so, the project has progressed far enough for users to run applications such as **Steam and multiple emulators**. That makes PS5 Linux one of the most technically significant developments in the PlayStation 5 homebrew scene so far. ## Open-source development can continue without TheFlow The future of the project is not entirely dependent on Nguyen. The **ps5-linux-loader** repository is distributed under the GPL-3.0 licence, allowing other developers to study, modify and fork the existing code. That means support for the original PS5 and PS5 Slim can continue evolving even without TheFlow’s direct involvement. PS5 Pro presents a much bigger challenge. Nguyen’s unfinished PS5 Pro work does not currently appear in the public repository, meaning future developers may need to independently reproduce much of the research required to support the newer console. The loss is therefore much more significant for PS5 Pro than for older models. ## PS5 Pro Linux now has an uncertain future TheFlow’s exit does not prove that Linux will never run on PS5 Pro. Other researchers could eventually develop their own implementation, and previously vulnerable firmware may continue to offer opportunities even after Sony patches newer system versions. However, losing several months of unpublished work from one of the most experienced PlayStation security researchers creates a substantial setback. For now, **PS5 Linux remains alive on original and Slim consoles, while PS5 Pro support has effectively been left without a roadmap**. The existing open-source code can still be developed by the community, but replacing Nguyen’s private PS5 Pro research may require significant additional reverse engineering. His departure also illustrates how rapidly AI tools are changing vulnerability research. LLMs can make exploit development and code analysis more accessible, but TheFlow’s criticism highlights an ongoing debate over the difference between generating working exploit code and fully understanding the systems being attacked. For the PS5 scene, however, the immediate consequence is much simpler: one of its most prominent researchers has stepped away, and PS5 Pro Linux development has lost its expected 2027 release path.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told CNBC that all Iranian airlines will be shut down from Wednesday, escalating economic pressure as oil prices rose and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian prepared to address the United Nations in New York. Bessent said on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” that carriers would be cut off from fuel, landing services, and ticket sales abroad or face being knocked out of the dollar system. Brent crude futures gained about 1.4% near $101.70 a barrel and U.S. West Texas Intermediate advanced about 1.7% near $97.42 as investors weighed the warning against hopes of diplomacy around the U.N. General Assembly. Pezeshkian is due to present Iran’s positions on the war with the United States and Israel and hold talks on the sidelines through late September, according to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency. Markets remain sensitive to whether New York yields direct talks — which could ease supply fears — or renewed escalation that Tehran has warned would draw a significant response. Diablo IV’s Season of Hell’s Legacy is officially live again after Blizzard delayed the 30th-anniversary season launch earlier on September 15 amid a flood of login errors (including codes 3000008 and 3000006). A Blizzard community manager posted on the official forums that a hotfix has been deployed and players can now log into the game. GamesRadar+ confirmed seasonal characters can be created without the earlier login wall. One caveat: Solo Self Found (SSF) remains temporarily unavailable while Blizzard investigates, with no return timeline yet. Season 15 is the centerpiece of Diablo’s 30th anniversary celebration — featuring a nostalgic seasonal questline through Diablo history, Waking Nightmares recreating iconic boss fights, Deckard Cain’s Diablo IV debut, and nine new Legacy Uniques. Progress from the aborted early launch may have been rolled back as part of the delay fix. Xbox has responded to a viral ResetEra rumor claiming Game Pass could drop day-one new releases in early 2027 and split into new pricing tiers (including an ad-supported plan, cloud as a paid add-on, and a family plan). An Xbox spokesperson told Forbes’ Paul Tassi: “We regularly test different Game Pass offerings and look at what works best for players in different markets. We don’t have any changes to announce today or plans that have been finalized. There are no changes to previously announced games coming to Game Pass Ultimate on day one.” That keeps titles already promised for day-one Ultimate — such as the February Fable reboot and other previously announced 2027 Game Pass games — on track, but it does not rule out future changes after those commitments. The rumor itself remains unverified. Jagex has taken RuneScape: Dragonwilds out of Early Access with a full 1.0 launch on PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X|S — the first time any RuneScape title has shipped on consoles in the franchise’s 25-year history. The open-world survival crafting game sold more than 1.5 million copies during about 18 months of Steam Early Access. Console and PC editions ship with every prior EA update plus a new Scorned Wilderness chapter that wraps the opening Kuldra Saga. Cross-play is supported across platforms. Day-one availability also includes Xbox Game Pass (Premium, Ultimate, and PC Game Pass) and PlayStation Plus Extra/Premium on PS5. Physical Standard and Deluxe editions for PC, PS5, and Xbox are planned for Q4 2026. Jagex says the next major update, Luminance, is due in December, with a 2027 roadmap at RuneFest in October.
