A major search-and-rescue operation is underway in Indonesia after the Virgo Transport 8, carrying more than 240 people, lost contact while crossing the Java Sea. The ferry was travelling from Surabaya in East Java to Banjarmasin in South Kalimantan when it encountered severe weather. More than 100 people have reportedly been rescued, while at least one person has died and many others remain unaccounted for. Rescue teams and nearby vessels are continuing to search the area as authorities try to determine exactly what happened to the ship. The situation remains developing and casualty figures may change. Al Jazeera Question: Should Indonesia introduce stricter weather-related restrictions for passenger ferries? https://virgokarya.com/assets/backend/assets/images/kapal_virgo_shipping.png https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2026/9/13/one-dead-102-rescued-after-indonesian-ferry-goes-missing-in-java-sea

I just came across **Anatase**, a new Linux gaming OS aimed at handheld PCs, and it looks genuinely interesting. It seems to take a lot of the ideas that make SteamOS and Bazzite work so well on handhelds — booting straight into a controller-friendly gaming mode, TDP controls, VRR, HDR, FPS limiting, gyro support, etc. — but there are a couple of things that make Anatase stand out. One of them is that they want to use a **single image across handhelds, laptops, desktops and HTPCs**, with support for AMD, Intel and NVIDIA hardware. They already list support for a pretty large number of handhelds, including the ROG Ally, Legion Go, MSI Claw, GPD, Ayaneo and OneXPlayer devices. It also integrates **HHD (Handheld Daemon)** and has system-level 2x frame generation available from Game Mode, which could be particularly useful on lower-powered handhelds. But the part I find most interesting is **Spaces**. The base OS is immutable, but you can create isolated Arch, Fedora, Ubuntu, Kali, etc. environments and install software from those distributions without messing with the base system. So in theory you get the reliability of an immutable gaming OS without making the machine annoying to use as an actual Linux PC. Desktop mode uses KDE Plasma, so you can still dock the handheld and use it like a normal computer. Obviously it's a very new project, so I wouldn't replace a perfectly working Bazzite or SteamOS installation expecting everything to be better straight away. There are going to be bugs and hardware-specific issues to iron out. Still, this looks like one of the more interesting Linux gaming projects I've seen recently, especially for handheld PCs. Has anyone here actually tried Anatase yet? I'd be really interested in hearing how it compares with Bazzite or SteamOS in terms of battery life, suspend/resume, performance and general hardware support. https://anatase.org/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XhH4LER0R8U

A new maritime attack in the Strait of Hormuz is raising fresh concerns about global energy supplies as tensions in the region continue to escalate. The UK Maritime Trade Operations agency reported that a vessel was struck by a projectile in the strategic waterway. Iranian media separately reported that a commercial ship near Qeshm Island was hit, killing one person and injuring three others. It was not immediately clear whether both reports referred to the same incident. The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's most important energy routes, and further disruption could put additional pressure on already elevated oil and fuel prices. Reuters Question: Could continued attacks in the Strait trigger another major surge in global oil prices? https://thumb.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/0/07/Strait_of_Hormuz-svg-en.svg/1280px-Strait_of_Hormuz-svg-en.svg.png?utm_campaign=index&utm_content=thumbnail&utm_source=commons.wikimedia.org
