Lane Johnson retires after 14 seasons with the Eagles, citing mental health and family priorities
Lane Johnson has retired from the NFL after 14 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, ending a career that brought two Super Bowl titles, six Pro Bowl selections and five Associated Press All-Pro honors. He announced the decision Tuesday, two days after being inactive for Philadelphia’s loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Johnson said he had hoped to play one final season, but that his personal and family priorities had changed. “Right now, it is critical that I focus on my mental health,” he wrote in his retirement statement. A first-round pick in 2013, Johnson started 171 regular-season games, all for Philadelphia, and helped the Eagles reach three Super Bowls. His departure leaves the 2–2 team without a cornerstone of its offensive line as it tries to arrest a two-game slide. Rookie Markel Bell started in Johnson’s place against Los Angeles.
