Houthis claim large-scale strike on Saudi King Khalid Air Base
Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi rebels said Monday they fired dozens of ballistic missiles and drones at Saudi Arabia’s King Khalid Air Base in Khamis Mushait, claiming hits on aircraft hangars, radars, runways and ammunition depots. Military spokesman Yahya Saree said the barrage was retaliation for more than 300 Saudi airstrikes across Yemen in five days. Saudi Civil Defense briefly issued alerts in Khamis Mushait and nearby Abha before saying the danger had passed. There was no immediate Saudi confirmation of damage or casualties at the base. The exchange comes as fighting in Yemen intensifies after Houthi advances along the Red Sea coast and seizures that tighten pressure on Bab el-Mandeb — a critical oil route while the Strait of Hormuz remains disrupted. The strikes deepen a wider Middle East energy shock that has already shut Saudi Arabia’s east-west pipeline and pushed Brent crude above $108. Nearly 86,000 people have been displaced in Yemen in recent weeks, according to the International Organization for Migration.
