Iran says Hormuz stays shut until US meets war-end conditions

Iran’s parliament speaker said Sunday the Strait of Hormuz will not reopen until Washington meets Tehran’s conditions to end the war, as security chief Mohsen Rezaei confirmed seven demands had been sent to the White House through Qatari mediators and oil remained above $100 a barrel. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf told parliament that “the duality of war or negotiation is not real” and that Iran must “both fight and negotiate,” insisting there would be “no opening for a return to the previous state of negotiations or for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz” until U.S. commitments are fulfilled and Iranian rights recognized. Rezaei, in an Al Jazeera interview, listed conditions including an end to the war on all fronts (notably Lebanon), release of frozen Iranian funds, an end to the U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports, an end to U.S. interference in Iran’s internal affairs, an end to U.S. cooperation with “opponents of our revolution,” and an end to U.S. attacks on Iranian territory. He warned Tehran is “prepared for a decisive war” if Washington refuses, and said Iran is waiting for President Donald Trump’s response after a June 17 MoU expired last month. The stance lands as CENTCOM’s Admiral Brad Cooper claimed U.S. forces had supported more than 1 billion barrels of crude and over 2,000 commercial ship transits through Hormuz in recent months, with traffic in the past two weeks at a six-month high — while Iran maintains the waterway is effectively closed and tanker attacks plus Houthi pressure on Red Sea routes keep global energy markets under strain. Trump cut short a Camp David weekend and returned to Washington Saturday as Saudi–Houthi fighting escalated; the U.S. State Department separately urged heightened vigilance across several Gulf and regional countries.
