Trump claims Ukraine-Russia energy strike halt; Zelenskyy sets conditions

U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday that Ukraine and Russia have agreed to stop attacking each other's energy infrastructure — a claim neither side fully confirmed as global diesel prices hit records. "Ukraine has agreed not to hit Russian Energy targets. Russia has agreed to do, likewise!" Trump wrote on Truth Social, blaming the Russia-Ukraine war — not Iran — for the world's diesel surge. U.S. average diesel recently hit an all-time high above $6.23 a gallon amid Middle East oil shocks and Ukrainian strikes on Russian refineries. Roughly an hour later, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy undercut any sense of a locked-in deal. He said Kyiv is ready to halt strikes on Russian energy and related targets if partners can ensure Russia genuinely stops hitting Ukraine's electricity system, other energy facilities, critical infrastructure and food routes — but added Ukraine is "not convinced that Russia is willing to abide by any agreement." He called an energy de-escalation a possible first step toward peace and said Kyiv expects specifics from partners. Moscow had welcomed Trump's earlier call for Ukraine to stop hitting Russian diesel facilities without confirming a reciprocal halt of its own.
