PS5 14.20 update leaves the 14.10 exploit status unclear
*Illustrative image from PlayStation support; this is not a capture of version 26.07-14.20.00.* **Update — October 21:** Sony has begun rolling out PS5 system software 26.07-14.20.00. The [official changelog](https://www.playstation.com/en-gb/support/hardware/ps5/system-software-info/) lists improvements to messages and usability on some screens. It does not say whether the update changes or closes any 14.10 exploit path; that remains unknown. [Game Watch reported the rollout today](https://game.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/news/2150086.html). A video from developer Gezine shows a PS5 running system software 26.06-14.10.00.03 and opening Debug Settings. A follow-up demonstration runs Luac0re 2.5 on the same firmware. That is a meaningful proof of progress, but it does not show a publicly released, reproducible jailbreak. The public [Luac0re project](https://github.com/Gezine/Luac0re) describes an entry point through the PS2 emulator in *Star Wars Racer Revenge*. A bug in its embedded Lua JIT can provide native code execution in userland: the less-privileged environment where ordinary apps run. Reaching Debug Settings suggests the private chain goes further, but neither the exact kernel vulnerability nor the complete privilege-escalation path has been disclosed. No vulnerability identifier or public files for a 14.10 jailbreak were available in the reports reviewed on October 20. Gezine has said the kernel exploit used on firmware 13.xx was patched in 14.00 and that this is a different method, not Relapse. He has indicated that he plans to request disclosure; that is not the same as a release date. The original [October 19 X post](https://x.com/gezine_dev/status/2112279793911968218) shows the 14.10 Debug Settings result, while [Arkade’s technical report](https://arkade.com.br/para-a-surpresa-de-zero-pessoas-o-firmware-14-10-do-ps5-ja-esta-sendo-desbloqueado-por-modders/) and [GameGaz’s report quoting Gezine](https://gamegaz.com/2026102046313/) describe the follow-up and the patched older exploit. For PS5 owners, the practical takeaway is to treat this as a private research demonstration. It does not establish a public tool, a confirmed hypervisor bypass, or support for game dumping. The kernel bug and the rest of the chain remain undisclosed. Sony’s 14.20 notes do not resolve whether that research still works on the new version.
