Houthis strike Saudi targets again as Hormuz talks stall
Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis launched a new wave of missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia, saying they fired dozens of munitions at a military airbase in Khamis Mushait — targeting hangars, radar, runways and ammunition depots — in retaliation for Saudi airstrikes. Saudi authorities issued emergency alerts there and in three other southern cities; the Saudi-led coalition said 13 civilians were wounded. Coalition spokesperson Maj. Gen. Turki al-Maliki said the command would deal with the attacks “responsibly and firmly.” Houthi advances on Yemen’s western Red Sea coast, including control of Perim Island at the mouth of the Red Sea, add pressure as Saudi Arabia’s East-West oil pipeline remains largely offline. Traders warn a prolonged shutdown could cut off as much as 4% of global oil supply while the Strait of Hormuz stays largely blockaded; Gulf Arab states postponed planned talks with Iran on reopening Hormuz. Washington has so far resisted Saudi requests for direct military intervention beyond intelligence support, according to Reuters sources. Crude rose more than 4% Monday before settling about 1% higher.
