On Wednesday, two high-speed trains collided near Urda, in Spain's Toledo province, resulting in at least 68 fatalities and over 100 injuries. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez expressed his concern, calling it 'unacceptable' for Spain to have experienced its second fatal rail accident within a year. Survivors described the crash as happening in an instant, with passengers recounting scenes of chaos and devastation. Emergency services were quickly deployed to assist those affected, transforming nearby towns into emergency response centers. The cause of the collision is still under investigation, with reports suggesting both computer system failure and human error may be factors. The small town of Urda was swiftly transformed into a frantic emergency response center, with local sports centres serving as triage posts for the injured. Josimar Medina, a 37-year-old tourist from Peru, recounted his experience, describing how he and his girlfriend Vitoria Maia were thrown across their carriage after the crash. They helped move the injured while waiting for medical assistance to arrive. The accident occurred amid vineyards and olive groves near Urda in Castilla-La Mancha, close to Toledo. Emergency services, including firefighters, police, medical teams, and helicopters, have been deployed to assist those affected. Authorities have activated the regional emergency plan, with rescue operations continuing.
