Germany pledges €1.3 billion in new military and energy aid for Ukraine
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced a new package worth more than €1.3 billion for Ukraine during his October 4 visit to Kyiv. About €1 billion is military support, including long-range weapons, combat drones and satellite technology. Germany will also fund joint production of interceptor drones. The package includes a further €350 million for winter energy assistance, covering generators, substations and repair work. The funding is intended to help Ukraine keep its energy infrastructure operating as Russia continues strikes on the country. Ukraine’s presidential office separately said the two countries signed 15 agreements worth more than €8.5 billion, mainly covering security cooperation, weapons production and procurement. That figure refers to the agreements and is separate from the aid package announced by Merz.
